Meaning in Abstract Art- Raymond

Image
Art- Grade 2- Unit 4 During this unit, we learned how to use elements of art to create abstract artworks with meaning.  Did you know that artists choose specific lines, shapes, and colors to repeat or emphasize in order to make their artworks more interesting?  Artists can also communicate their personal experiences in abstract art using simple symbols.  We practiced these skills by making our own stamps and printmaking.  We added several layers to our artworks to experiment with how to organize abstract artworks.  Ask me about the meanings of the lines, shapes, colors, emphasis and repetition in my abstract artworks!

We went to blue pumpkin for are field trip and we learned a lot of things, like we learned how to make croissants and we learned how to make bread and ice cream. The best part was when we got ice cream and we tasted vanilla and chocolate ice cream. There was a man with a dark red t-shirt and he said that there are five different rooms. One was for bread and the other ones were like salads and croissants and one really cold room for the ICE CREAM! We also got to make croissants.

Art- Grade 2- Unit 3 During our “Responsible Design” unit in art class, we learned about how to think like a designer by using the creative cycle.  We investigated objects and their functions (purposes).  We planned ideas for new objects, considered our audiences and how best to help them.  We created prototypes to show our designs using recycled materials.  We evaluated our designs by sharing with our friends, thinking of ways to improve, or adding new parts to our art pieces.  Here are some photos of my creative process:

Unit 3: Writing Lyrics - Music

For this unit we wrote lyrics for a song.  The song was about one of the learner profile.  Parents came to help us at Spotlight with some ideas for our verses.  Here are my lyrics. Listen and Think by Raymond You follow the rhyme You sing along You dance along Can’t think of a question Be an inquirer Can’t think of a question Be an inquirer Look up and your brain starts working You have idea You note it down Can’t think of a question Be an inquirer Can’t think of a question Be an inquirer My learning profile is inquiry. I chose this song because my song is amazing.

Where we are in Place and Time - Week 2

Image
The students were fabulous at assembly this week. They all did a wonderful job presenting, singing, and being on stage throughout the assembly. UoI We are only two weeks into this unit of inquiry and the students have began to observe artifacts closely and think about what they may have been used for, who might have used them and where as well as how the artifacts can help us to understand Cambodia. On Monday we did an 'archaeological dig' in the sand pit. The students first had to decide the best way to complete the dig. The sectioned the sandpit off and worked on different sections. During the dig we all stopped when an artifact was found to record where we found it. After the dig we looked at each object and found clues about where the artifact might be from and who may have used it. Then on Thursday our assistances showed the students artifacts from Cambodia that were special to their families. The students had many questions to ask and learnt a lot about ...

Raymond- Art, Unit 2

This unit in art was all about public art.  We found locations around ISPP that needed public art and used the creative cycle to investigate, plan, create and evaluate our own ideas.  Here are some pictures of me exploring how to create public art for our school community.

How We Express Ourselves - Week 4

Image
We have two weeks left of this unit. The students are making great progress in their understanding of the central idea. We will begin our summative assessment towards the end of next week.  Image Editing Math We continued with our inquiry into 2D and 3D shapes. We identified shapes with the saying 'What does the SHAPE say'. Students matched the picture of the shape, the name and the definition of the shape as a whole class and then made their own. We created our own 3D shapes by working out how to make our own nets and folding them into 3D shapes. Unit of Inquiry Inspiration boards The students have been very engaged creating their inspiration boards. There are a lot of strong themes coming from the boards and will help the students when creating a piece of art or their summative assessment. Best Friend Writing On Monday the students write a personal narrative of their best friend. They all did a...

Raymond- Art Unit 1

In art classes we learned about how artists use the creative cycle to investigate, plan, create, and evaluate.  I used the cycle to make multiple artworks that were inspired by what I saw, imagined, and wondered.  Here is some of my art making process using the creative cycle.
