We finished our first unit of inquiry today. The students all did a wonderful job on their assessments and were able to clearly articulate their learning. When we get back from the break we will we begin our How We Express Ourselves unit. Peace One Day We had a wonderful Peace One Day celebration on Wednesday. The students worked with their Grade 6 buddies and participated in cooperation games, drama activities and an art activity. At the end of the day we were privileged to be apart of a whole school assembly. We heard from three guest speakers, Fatima in Grade 5, Angela in Grade 5 and Wan-Hea Lee, the Keynote speaker the country representative for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. We have had another fantastic week of school. The students were busy with a guest speaker, reseraching inquiry questions, Dot Day and assembly. Next week we are looking forward to celebrating Peace One Day on Wednesday. It is also our last week of school before the Pchum Ben Holiday. Dot Day This week we celebrated International Dot Day . Dot Day is a day to celebrate creativity, courage and collaboration. We combined with Ms Dana in Art and Ms Rachel in the Knowledge Centre to celebrate this at ISPP. Art On Monday we went to the Art Room to create some Dot Day art with Ms Dana. We took a Grade 2 photo with our Art on Thursday and the art work will be on display in the Knowledge Centre. Knowledge Centre In the Knowledge Centre Ms Rachel explained Dot Day and the author, Peter Reynolds. September 21 is International Peace One Day.  ISPP will be celebrating this day across the whole school. Grade 2 and Grade 6 will be working together to participate in a range of peace projects. It was a short week this week. We welcomed Phallyka to our class and continued to inquire into nutrition. Welcome Phallyka to our class PE with Helmi's Mum Saara helped Mr Andy teach the class one of Helmi's favourite games from Finland to our class. Our school Lunch On Tuesday I took a photo of each students lunch and we spent time looking at the food groups on each plate and the variety of food the students ate. Asking thick and thin questions We introduced students to the idea of 'thick and thin' questions. Thin questions generally have a yes or no answer and thick questions will give you a lot of information. We did this to help students develop good inquiry questions they will research next week.

After an extra day to the weekend, we started on week on Tuesday. It was a jammed pack week. Welcome to Anna On Thursday we welcomed Anna to our class. Library We have been going to the library on Tuesdays for borrowing and independent reading. Students have time to explore a range of literature in the library and can select upto three books of interest for the week. Math In math we continued to looking into place value by expanding numbers into the thousands and hundreds and modeling numbers with MAB blocks. We also started looking at tallies and bar graphs. Students have made graphs on their favourite fruits and sports. We will continue with this into next week. Buddies We spent some time with our buddies in their classroom.
