UoI We have finished our How we express ourselves unit this week. All the students have put so much effort into their journals and other pieces of work throughout the unit. After the Khmer New Year break we will begin our final unit of inquiry, in the theme Sharing the Planet. Central Idea: Human actions can preserve of endanger animal life.  If you have any contacts who could be a guest speaker during the unit, please let me know. Assembly Today at assembly French, Mandarin and Khmer language students performed a song for us. Khmer New Year activities We participated in some traditional Khmer New Year activities to celebrate the new year. Student Led Conferences Thank you for coming to the student led conferences on Wednesday. On the 23rd April all students need to wear a green t-shirt for Earth Day. Happy Khmer New Year

We completed our unit last Friday. The students have shown an amazing understanding of the conditions and requirements for plant growth, They have completed non-fiction books they will be sharing with the Kindergarten students next week. On Friday the students were fantastic in assembly. Here are a few photos of it. It has been great hearing about how the plants for homework have grown. Thanks Eric for bringing his plant to school last week. Last Wednesday we watched the Grade 10 children's theatre production. Each in the year Grade 10 students observed Grade 2 and 3 students and interviewed them about their favourite books, TV shows interests and what was important to them. With this information the Grade 10 students created a play for us. There was a slightly scary element to the play with the underlying message of friendship. We began to delve into our first unit for the year this week. We started with a challenge for the students to make a folded piece of paper the same as mine. They were allowed to look at the paper from any angle, but could not touch the paper. While they were trying to make it I recorded some of the comments that I heard the students say as well as filming them. After 10 minutes we looked at the list of comments and watched the video and wondered if these would help us to complete the task. This was a difficult challenge and many of the students found it hard to complete. After hearing our responses and watching ourselves we starting talking about Growth Mindset. This is the end of our unit on Simple Machines. After the break we will begin How We Organize Ourselves. We will be inquiring into How food is produced and distributed, essential food resources and the changes food goes through. The students were fabulous at assembly this week. They all did a wonderful job presenting, singing, and being on stage throughout the assembly. UoI We are only two weeks into this unit of inquiry and the students have began to observe artifacts closely and think about what they may have been used for, who might have used them and where as well as how the artifacts can help us to understand Cambodia. On Monday we did an 'archaeological dig' in the sand pit. The students first had to decide the best way to complete the dig. The sectioned the sandpit off and worked on different sections. During the dig we all stopped when an artifact was found to record where we found it. After the dig we looked at each object and found clues about where the artifact might be from and who may have used it. Then on Thursday our assistances showed the students artifacts from Cambodia that were special to their families. The students had many questions to ask and learnt a lot about ...
