Central Idea:  Human action can preserve or endanger animal life.  Lines of inquiry:  The responsibilities humans have for the survival of other species.  The reason animals become endangered or extinct The connection between human actions and endangered animal life We have started our final unit of inquiry for the year and all the students have been very engaged learning about endangered animals.  Last week we had three guest speakers Plastic Free Cambodia, talking to us about the dangers of plastic. Free the Bears talking about the sun bear program and Liger Learning academy explaining how they made their Wildlife of Cambodia book.  This Friday we will visit the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Centre to see the work of Free the Bears and other NGOs helping to save endangered animals.  Students creating the display board of reasons animals are endangered.  Math  We started our last unit of math this week. We began our 5th unit of inquiry this week. Our central idea is: People can find artistic inspiration by discovering and interpreting nature.  We will be inquiring into: Nature in the World around us Ways our observations and inquiries influence our action and art making  This unit we will be focusing on different forms of art, how people are connected to nature and how we interpret nature to create art. Students will be working on this unit in Art and Music. Journals The students have been working on at art journal in the classroom, art and music. Over the unit all the students thinking, pieces of art they create and reflections will be in these. The journal will become their summative assessment. On Wednesday all the Grade 2 students worked together to develop a set of criteria of what they will need to do to be successful in this unit. We are coming to the end of our current unit of inquiry and the students have been very busy researching and presenting their findings ready to share with you next Tuesday. We hope to see you on Tuesday morning 7:45 in the Grade 2 piazza. Child Safe Ms Alison, the elementary councilor ran two lessons with the students this week on safety. In the first lesson she spoke to the students about times and situations we may not feel safe, these included swimming without adult supervision, riding in the car without a seatbelt and crossing the road without an adult. Students were taught he to say stop if they don't feel safe and identifying a person to talk to such as a parent or teacher. On Wednesday Ms Alison focused on three types of touch. Unwanted, Uncomfortable touch and private touch. She explained the three types of touch and students gave examples. This week the students have each written about something they enjoyed doing.  Noel We learned a new website called Scratch these past few weeks were learning how to make our own game. We are all making a ping pong game it was fun, try one of our games if you're brave enough to try and you can also ask your children to make it a bit easier. Try new things with your son our daughter. Itthimun My favorite thing about this week of me making a game. Because it's very fun. We made pongs games. We completed our unit last Friday. The students have shown an amazing understanding of the conditions and requirements for plant growth, They have completed non-fiction books they will be sharing with the Kindergarten students next week. On Friday the students were fantastic in assembly. Here are a few photos of it. It has been great hearing about how the plants for homework have grown. Thanks Eric for bringing his plant to school last week. Last Wednesday we watched the Grade 10 children's theatre production. Each in the year Grade 10 students observed Grade 2 and 3 students and interviewed them about their favourite books, TV shows interests and what was important to them. With this information the Grade 10 students created a play for us. There was a slightly scary element to the play with the underlying message of friendship. We started our second unit of inquiry this week. The students were very engaged in their learning and looking forward to the rest of the unit. Central Idea:  Plants require specific environments and conditions for growth.  Lines of Inquiry: Cycles and characteristics of plants Factor that influence plant growth Ways plants adapt to their environment Key Concepts:  Form Function Causation Related Concepts: Appreciation Curiosity  Prior Knowledge assessment: On Monday students were asked to draw and label a plant. After they had completed this they wrote what plants need to grow. We started looking at the form of a plant. Students label each part of the plant in their mother tongue and this has been displayed in the classroom. The students enjoyed learning the parts of a plant in different languages. We have been tracking and with the help of Mr Ben caring for the maize we planted in August. On Friday we measured the maize and it...
