UoI This was the last week of our Where we are in Place and Time unit. Students worked hard this week to complete their report writing on an aspect of Cambodia's past. Continued to work in math on addition and subtraction of numbers within the hundreds and create a piece of clay to represent something from the unit. Please have a look at the individual student pages over the next few days for some of their work from the unit. Jeslyn's Birthday On Friday afternoon we celebrated Jeslyn's 8th Birthday. The students have all worked really hard on completing research for their summative assessments. Students each selected a part of Cambodia's history they were interested in and have spent time research this by looking at videos, photos, asking our Khmer staff and reading news articles and research pieces.  Next week they will turn this into a report explaining their knowledge. Guest Speaker This Thursday we had 17triggers come and speak to us about reducing plastic. Their environmental super hero also came along and told us about the work he is doing. Field trip For your calendars: Friday 3rd March - Field Trip to Wat Botom playground. 8 - 10am We will be visiting Wat Botom Playground as a tuning in experience for our next unit. More information will come about this field trip.

Thank you for supporting your child through another great week of school. Spotlight on the Arts Thank you to everyone who came to the Grade 2 Spotlight on the Arts. It was a very successful evening with a lot of creativity shown by both students and parents. Collaboration with another school During the week we collaborated with Vientiane International School's Grade 3 students. They are currently working on the same unit as us and visited the National Museum in Vientiane last week. We worked on a Padlet together to share photos about some of the artifacts we saw at the National Museum in Phnom Penh and learnt about some of the artifacts in Vientiane. Spotlight on the Arts is tomorrow! Thursday 9th February 2017 5-6pm In the Art and Music Rooms Please come along and learn more about what your child is doing in Art and Music.  Our classroom will be open from 4.40 - 4.55 feel free to come and have a look at what is happening in the classroom prior to attending the Spotlight.  A Message from Ms Anne:  Please make sure students have swim caps and goggles for every swimming lesson Swim caps and goggles are necessary to support mastery of swimming skills.  Caps keep hair out of the children's faces to allow continuity of movement so students can see and breathe. When children are not having to worry about their hair blocking their airways, they are more relaxed and swimming becomes easier.  ( Wearing caps also helps maintain the cleanliness of the pool as filtration systems and pool vacuum cleaners work better without hair floating around in the pool.) A short week packed with learning and a field trip. The students gained so much from the field trip and made some wonderful connections in their understanding of Cambodia in the past and now. The students have shown a real interest in Angkor Wat, Vann MolyVann and the Khmer Empire. We will continue to explore these over the next few weeks.  Field Trip The field trip to the Bophana Centre, National Museum and Olympic Stadium was a great opportunity for students to find out more about Cambodia. They were able to watch National achieves at the Bophana Centre and see many artifacts at the museum. The students climbed the stairs into Olympic Stadium and were in awe of the size and structure of it.
