Meaning in Abstract Art- Jamie

Image
Art- Grade 2- Unit 4 During this unit, we learned how to use elements of art to create abstract artworks with meaning.  Did you know that artists choose specific lines, shapes, and colors to repeat or emphasize in order to make their artworks more interesting?  Artists can also communicate their personal experiences in abstract art using simple symbols.  We practiced these skills by making our own stamps and printmaking.  We added several layers to our artworks to experiment with how to organize abstract artworks.  Ask me about the meanings of the lines, shapes, colors, emphasis and repetition in my abstract artworks!

Art- Grade 2- Unit 3 During our “Responsible Design” unit in art class, we learned about how to think like a designer by using the c reative cycle.  We investigated objects and their functions (purposes).  We planned ideas for new objects, considered our audiences and how best to help them.  We created prototypes to show our designs using recycled materials.  We evaluated our designs by sharing with our friends, thinking of ways to improve, or adding new parts to our art pieces.  Here are some photos of my creative process:

Unit 3: Writing Lyrics - Music

For this unit we wrote lyrics for a song.  The song was about one of the learner profile.  Parents came to help us at Spotlight with some ideas for our verses.  Here are my lyrics. Risk taking by Jamie You can do it Be calm be positive Give it a try Do your best Forget the rest take a step forwards Don’t give up When I sing this song I will be brave all day long If you be scared You don’t have to be brave Brave doesn’t mean the absence of fear Trying hard and giving it a try Even though it is scary Try your best My learning profile is take risk. I wrote  this song because I like risk taking. I got inspired by risk taking. My feeling of the song is happy.

This unit in art was all about public art.  We found locations around ISPP that needed public art and used the creative cycle to investigate, plan, create and evaluate our own ideas.  Here are some pictures of me exploring how to create public art for our school community.

How We Express Ourselves - Week 4

Image
We have two weeks left of this unit. The students are making great progress in their understanding of the central idea. We will begin our summative assessment towards the end of next week.  Image Editing Math We continued with our inquiry into 2D and 3D shapes. We identified shapes with the saying 'What does the SHAPE say'. Students matched the picture of the shape, the name and the definition of the shape as a whole class and then made their own. We created our own 3D shapes by working out how to make our own nets and folding them into 3D shapes. Unit of Inquiry Inspiration boards The students have been very engaged creating their inspiration boards. There are a lot of strong themes coming from the boards and will help the students when creating a piece of art or their summative assessment. Best Friend Writing On Monday the students write a personal narrative of their best friend. They all did a...

The weeks seem to go quicker and quicker. We have had another fun week of learning in Grade 2. Readers Theatre This week students presented their Reader's Theatre scripts. The students demonstrated excellent viewing and presenting skills. Readers Theater is a dramatic presentation of a written work in a script form.  Readers read from a "script" and reading parts are divided among the readers. No memorization, costumes, blocking, or special lighting is needed. Scripts are held by the readers. Lines are not memorized. The focus is on reading the text with expressive voices and gestures. http://www.teachingheart.net/readerstheater.htm The hungry little caterpillar One Fish, Two fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish Paperbag Princess Where the Wild Things Are Community Development We had the opportunity this week to have six guest speakers come to Grade 2.
