How We Express Ourselves - Week 4
We have two weeks left of this unit. The students are making great progress in their understanding of the central idea. We will begin our summative assessment towards the end of next week.

Math
We continued with our inquiry into 2D and 3D shapes. We identified shapes with the saying 'What does the SHAPE say'. Students matched the picture of the shape, the name and the definition of the shape as a whole class and then made their own.
We created our own 3D shapes by working out how to make our own nets and folding them into 3D shapes.
Unit of Inquiry
Inspiration boards
The students have been very engaged creating their inspiration boards. There are a lot of strong themes coming from the boards and will help the students when creating a piece of art or their summative assessment.
Best Friend Writing
On Monday the students write a personal narrative of their best friend. They all did a wonderful job writing about a friend.
Homework
Thank you for your support with homework each week. Here are some photos from this weeks homework.
Reminders
Hats -
The students must wear their ISPP red cap outside. From time to time we might send the cap home to by washed. Please make sure it comes back to school after it has been washed and dried.
Fruit Snack -
We had a discussion during the week about some the distractions we face in the classroom. Something that came up was that the students hungry between morning recess and lunch. This is making it hard for the students to focus and concentrate at this time.
We think that having a fruit break around 10.30 each day will help us. Please provide a piece of fruit for your child to eat in class at this time.
Digital Citizenship
This week Mr Matt and Ms Rachel did a parent workshop on Parenting in the Digital Age. This was a very informative workshop. Please have a look at Mr Matt's blog for more detailed information. Here is a brief outline of some of the key points from the workshop.
Websites, Apps and Games (2016)
StaySafeOnline.org: Raising Digital Citizens
Common Sense Media: Parent Concerns
Netsmartz: Information for Parents
(BOOK) Screenwise by Devorah Heitner (Amazon.com)
Know what your children are reading, watching and playing. “Screen time” doesn’t exist. Know the specifics and experiment with the technology they use.
Devices before bedtime are proven to disrupt sleep patterns. Make sure kids power down at least 30 minutes before going to bed, and that devices are not available during this time.
You are not alone. Talk to other parents, teachers and use online resources to learn more about the tools your kids are using.

This is my fort. I like the family crest. It is an eagle. i like eagles because they are cool.
I can make this fort better by adding flags. - Jamie |
Yesterday (Wednesday, 26th October 2016), I made chocolate brownies with my cousin and sister.
I used 2 eggs,nutella and flour.
First, I put the nutella in the bowl. Next, I added the flour and eggs. Then, I mixed all the ingredients. Finally, I put the mixture in the baking pan and put it in the oven at 180 degrees Celcius for 15 minutes.
When it was cooked, me and family tried it and they all like and enjoyed it.
It was fun making the brownies. - Arisa
