Meaning in Abstract Art- Alethea

Image
Art- Grade 2- Unit 4 During this unit, we learned how to use elements of art to create abstract artworks with meaning.  Did you know that artists choose specific lines, shapes, and colors to repeat or emphasize in order to make their artworks more interesting?  Artists can also communicate their personal experiences in abstract art using simple symbols.  We practiced these skills by making our own stamps and printmaking.  We added several layers to our artworks to experiment with how to organize abstract artworks.  Ask me about the meanings of the lines, shapes, colors, emphasis and repetition in my abstract artworks!

Art- Grade 2- Unit 3 During our “Responsible Design” unit in art class, we learned about how to think like a designer by using the creative cycle.  We investigated objects and their functions (purposes).  We planned ideas for new objects, considered our audiences and how best to help them.  We created prototypes to show our designs using recycled materials.  We evaluated our designs by sharing with our friends, thinking of ways to improve, or adding new parts to our art pieces.  Here are some photos of my creative process:

The students were fabulous at assembly this week. They all did a wonderful job presenting, singing, and being on stage throughout the assembly. UoI We are only two weeks into this unit of inquiry and the students have began to observe artifacts closely and think about what they may have been used for, who might have used them and where as well as how the artifacts can help us to understand Cambodia. On Monday we did an 'archaeological dig' in the sand pit. The students first had to decide the best way to complete the dig. The sectioned the sandpit off and worked on different sections. During the dig we all stopped when an artifact was found to record where we found it. After the dig we looked at each object and found clues about where the artifact might be from and who may have used it. Then on Thursday our assistances showed the students artifacts from Cambodia that were special to their families. The students had many questions to ask and learnt a lot about ...
