Students used their knowledge of the elements of music from their last unit and applied them to movement.  They chose a song and style of dance that they liked and tried to show a variety of movements that fit the music.

Scratch Day (14th May) is a global network of events that celebrates Scratch — and the young people who code and create with it. During Scratch Day, children and adults gather to share projects and learn from one another. Our class is signed up to be part of this event. Our class have used Scratch this year to write stories, learn about co-ordinates and angles AND learn to code to make some fun games. Student explored the elements of music, such as tempo, pitch, dynamics and duration, to create a piece of music that would allow the audience to have an idea, feeling or story.  They started to work on this individually and later some students chose to work collaboratively.  Here is their final composition.

G2 Art-Unit 2- Nature and Architecture We observed shapes in architecture and shapes in nature.  We investigated the functions (purposes) of nature and architecture.  We used our imaginations and feedback from friends or family to draw and build architecture inspired by nature.  Here is my artwork: G2 Art- Unit 3- Finding and Making Meaning in Abstract Art We found shapes, colors and lines in abstract artworks.  We discussed our experiences and emotions connected to the colors, lines and shapes.  We used this to guess the meaning of abstract artworks.  We sorted abstract artworks to explore how some are “a little abstract, very abstract or not abstract”.  We also made abstract artworks about ourselves for others to interpret.

Supporting the EY - Grade 1 Sports Day

This week marked the beginning of our third unit of inquiry for the year. We started off by reminding ourselves what a unit of inquiry is and how we know what we are focusing on. Transdiscplinary Theme:  The PYP has six transdisciplinary themes that are taught each year. These themes have been selected due to their global significants and read world application. The themes provide opportunity for the development of knowledge, concepts and skills. Sharing The Planet An inquiry into the rights and responsibilities in the struggle to share finite resources with other people and with other living things; communities and the relationships within a between them ; access to equal opportunities; peace and conflict resolution. Central Idea: Each unit of inquiry has a central idea. The central idea is to support students' understanding of the transdisciplinary theme, and challenges and extends what the students already know. Our Not a box designs Today we invited EY2 to visit Grade 2 to look at our Not a box. They had also been reading the book Not a Box by Antoinette Portis and created a giant pirate ship , they could fit most of their class into. All the students did an amazing job demonstrating the Learner Profile attributes of Communicators, Knowledgeable and Risk-Takers. The students were excellent role models for the younger students and can be very proud of their work.

Last Friday we concluded our first unit of the year with a healthy snack party. For homework students were asked to prepare a healthy snack to share with the class. The excitement surrounding the party was high and students enjoyed talking in front of the class what snack they made and why they had chose to make the different snack. After we had heard what all the snacks were, we enjoyed eating them together.
