Sharing the Planet

Central Idea:  Human action can preserve or endanger animal life.  Lines of inquiry:  The responsibilities humans have for the survival of other species.  The reason animals become endangered or extinct The connection between human actions and endangered animal life We have started our final unit of inquiry for the year and all the students have been very engaged learning about endangered animals.  Last week we had three guest speakers Plastic Free Cambodia, talking to us about the dangers of plastic. Free the Bears talking about the sun bear program and Liger Learning academy explaining how they made their Wildlife of Cambodia book.  This Friday we will visit the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Centre to see the work of Free the Bears and other NGOs helping to save endangered animals.  Students creating the display board of reasons animals are endangered.  Math  We started our last unit of math this week. How we express ourselves - Week 7

UoI We have finished our How we express ourselves unit this week. All the students have put so much effort into their journals and other pieces of work throughout the unit. After the Khmer New Year break we will begin our final unit of inquiry, in the theme Sharing the Planet. Central Idea: Human actions can preserve of endanger animal life.  If you have any contacts who could be a guest speaker during the unit, please let me know. Assembly Today at assembly French, Mandarin and Khmer language students performed a song for us. Khmer New Year activities We participated in some traditional Khmer New Year activities to celebrate the new year. Student Led Conferences Thank you for coming to the student led conferences on Wednesday. On the 23rd April all students need to wear a green t-shirt for Earth Day. Happy Khmer New Year

Student Led Conferences

Student Led Conferences (SLCs) are this Wednesday 11th April. Student's only need to come to school for their allocated time. The students have spent a lot of time preparing for these conferences and are looking forward to welcoming you into their classroom. Students have selected between 8-10 pieces of work they would like to show you. This is work that they are proud of and has been carefully selected to ensure a range of subjects, concepts, skills, learner profiles and assessments are shown. Please talk to you child about each piece of work and ask them questions. They maybe shy or try and rush through their work. Example of questions you can ask: What challenges do you have in this subject? How do you think you have improved at this since last year? Why are you proud of this work? How we express ourselves Week 5: Favourite pages in our art journals

The students each selected their favourite piece of work in their Art Journals and have explained why they like it. I chose this poem because it has colors that are calm and peaceful. I was inspired by the color of the sea and the land. - Vannissa I think the shape inspired me to make a dog because a dog is always hungry and I felt hungry. - Seb We made a collage each. I made a chetah, it reminds me of the colorful origami colors. I was going to make a bunny then a turtle, then a chetah. We were inspired by Henri Matisse's artwork, his was a snail. How We Express Ourselves - Week 1

We began our 5th unit of inquiry this week. Our central idea is: People can find artistic inspiration by discovering and interpreting nature.  We will be inquiring into: Nature in the World around us Ways our observations and inquiries influence our action and art making  This unit we will be focusing on different forms of art, how people are connected to nature and how we interpret nature to create art. Students will be working on this unit in Art and Music. Journals The students have been working on at art journal in the classroom, art and music. Over the unit all the students thinking, pieces of art they create and reflections will be in these. The journal will become their summative assessment. On Wednesday all the Grade 2 students worked together to develop a set of criteria of what they will need to do to be successful in this unit.
