Who We Are - Week 4

Another week has flown by and the students have been busy learning about their brains in UoI. In Math we started a unit on measurement and we have been writing recounts with the help of Ms Petra.

UoI
This week in UoI we focused on 2 lines of inquiry

• The rights and responsibilities we have for our learning
• Ways that help us grow and learn

We spent time this week learning about the brain. We started by comparing our brains to a camera, jelly, pot plant, cup and playdough. We read My Fantastic Elastic Brain and looked at the different parts of the brain and what they all do. We used Todaysmeet to write interesting facts and information while reading the book.

Students painted a picture of a brain and labeled the different sections. 

Towards the end of the week we reflected on our learning using a Padlet, each student was able to record their thinking. We will revisit this Padlet at the end of the unit and add more of our learning to it. 

Math
In Math we started our second module on measurement. We looked in the Guinness Book of World Records to find the tallest person, the longest strand of hair, longest fingernail, biggest foot and toe. We then estimated our our measurements and then measured ourselves.

Buddies
On Tuesday we meet our Grade 5 buddies. Our buddies had a book from the library to read with us and asked some questions to learn more about the students.

Lyna's Birthday
Friday we celebrated Lyna's 7th Birthday! Happy Birthday Lyna.

Upcoming
Assembly - There is a elementary Assembly next Friday 8th September, Grade 5 will be hosting this assembly.

Holidays
Students have holidays from the 14th - 24th September.
