How We Organize Ourselves - Week 5

GRADE 8 STUDENT SERVICE PROJECTS ~ CAN YOU HELP?
Football boots: please donate any old (in good condition) or unwanted football shoes. Kids sizes 20-30 are specifically needed. Collection box in ES office.

Rice & noodles: please donate a bag of rice or packet of noodles into the basket in the ES office. Thanks for your support!

Field Trip - Friday 26th May
As part of the inquiry we will visit Blue Pumpkin Central Distribution (opposite BKK Market) so our students have an opportunity to observe production of food, participate in some practical demonstrations and learn about how the food is distributed. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions, which will support their individual inquiries. Our class will leave school at 9:45 and return at approx. 11:30. We require one parent helper to accompany us on this trip. Please e-mail me if you are available to help.

End of the Year
The end of the school year is fast approaching.

All library books must be returned as soon as possible. The students will have the opportunity to borrow 10 books for the holidays in the last week of school.

If you are leaving for holidays prior to the end of the school year, can you please let me know so I am able to ensure all books and portfolios are sent home and assessments are completed.

It's Monday, What Are You Reading #IMWAYR
This week we joined in the 'It's Monday what are you reading' movement. It is a hashtag used on social media including Twitter. We started a class Padlet and will continue for the remaining Mondays of the school year. Our Grade 5 buddies left comments for us on the Padlet this week. Please feel free to add a comments for any of the students if you would like.

Minecraft
There was more Minecraft this week. The farms are coming along nicely and some students are starting to profit from their farms and starting trading wood and buying resources for their farms. This is a great integrated UoI, IT and math lesson.

Creating Games
In our unit of inquiry we have started to create board games. The purpose of the board games is to teach others the challenges and opportunities in food production and distribution. The students have looked at a range of well know board games and evaluated them based on interest, difficulty and design. The students will create these games over the next few weeks.

Poetry
Last Friday the students performed a poem on a small group. Check out the videos to see the students in action.
