How the World Works - Week 4
UoI
Labeling our work
We continued to work with Mr Matt and Ms Rachel on Contraption Maker and labeling our work. On Friday we labeled our Rube Goldberg machines using a collaborative Google Slide presentation.
Rube Goldberg Machines
Since the beginning of the unit the students have been very excited to create their own Rube Goldberg machine. On Tuesday the students started to plan their machine. The machine needed to have at least two simple machines and either get a ball into a cup or trap something. Most groups chose to get a ball in a cup. There were a lot of excellent communication and group work skills shown during this time. We tested the machines on Thursday. See the video below for each group's machine.
Revolting recipes
We continued with procedure writing this week. On Monday we read a Revolting Recipe title Slimy Sandwitches, the students enjoy the humour in this. On Wednesday the students planned their own revolting recipe and have spent time this week writing their recipes out. Some recipes include:
Math
Array cities
We spent time on Thursday and Friday putting our understanding of arrays and measurement to use and created an Array City.
World Poetry Day
Tuesday was World Poetry Day. We spent time in the library with Ms Rachel reading poetry and responding to the poems we read using drawing, key words and emotions.
Buddies
This week in buddies we gave feedback to the Grade 5's on their process journals for the PYP Exhibition.
PE photos
The students have been doing some Yoga in PE this week. Here are some photos of them in action this week. The PE blog has more information and photos of this.
