Welcome back and Happy New Year. I trust you all had a wonderful break. We welcomed a new students to our class this week. Her name is Yuzuka and she comes from Japan.

Unit of Inquiry

This is the final week of our Sharing the The Planet unit. The students have been very busy this week completing research for their investigation and creating a plan help overcome the issue they had identified before the break. Over the next week their individual pages will be updated with their summative assessment. Please check back to see your child's work.

Jona's public awareness campaign

We recreated our classroom city this week. Now we have a lot more knowledge on urban environments the students were able to create a detailed and well planned city. We compared both of our cities and visited Ms Karyn and Ms Anita's redeveloped cities as well. Students wanted to create space in the city. The added bike paths, recycling and trash bins, less roads, more green space and solar panels to buildings.

Where we are in Place and Time

Next week we will begin our 4th Unit of Inquiry. It fits under the Where we are in Place and Time theme. The central idea is:

Evidence from the past helps us to understand the place we live.

In this unit we will be looking at the history available to us in Cambodia and how this has impacted current culture. This is an in depth unit and we cover history including from pre-angkor, Angkor Wat and the Khmer Rouge. If you have any expertise in their areas or know someone who would like to be a guest speaker please let me know.

Math

We continued our unit on time this week. Please encourage your child at home to help tell the time. We are learning to tell time to 5 minute intervals as well as writing time.
