3rd - 7th Octoeer Weekly Wrap-up
Welcome back. I hope you all had a very relaxing break last week. We commenced our second unit of inquiry this week under the theme How We Express Ourselves.
Our Central idea is:
Personal perspective influences how we create art.
We will continue this unit until the water festival break.
Please check the previous post for upcoming dates. Next week is book week. Every day the students will be participating in a wide range of activities and taking part in a number of writer and illustrator's workshop with our author in residence. It is going to be a great week ending in a Book Character dress up day on Friday. Please help your child create a costume for this day.
Welcome Takuto
We welcomed Takuto to our class this week.
Happy Birthday Jona!
On Monday we celebrated Jona's 8th Birthday.

Central Idea
We looked at our new central idea on Tuesday. Students spent time translating this into their mother tongue and finding the meaning of unknown words.
Provocations
I see, I think, I wonder
On Thursday during our team time all the Grade 2 students went to each Grade 2 classroom. Each room had five pieces of art displayed. The students completed an I see, I think, I wonder at each piece of art.
Not A stick
On Monday we read Not a Stick by Antoinette Porter. After reading this the students created their own Not a Stick Sticks.
Prior Knowledge assessment
We used the Not A sticks' the students created and asked them to complete an artist statement. We will use this as an assessment of what they knew at the start of the unit. At the unit the students will complete a different piece of art as well as an artist statement.
Understanding perspectives
One of your Key concepts for this unit is perspectives. We have started to develop our understanding of this. Today each student receive a word either animals, school, play or sport. Without telling anyone their word they made a painting.
Students were then grouped into their word and asked to share their perspective of what the word means to them.
Math
Mathletics is proving to be very popular at home. Please check the student pages on the right on the blog for up to date certificates for individual students.
The students completed an assessment of Addition strategies this week. This week has been placed in their portfolios for you to discuss with your child at the 3 way conferences.
Next week we will begin looking at Shape and Space in Math.
Buddies
We started Passion Projects with our buddies this week. The will continue with these for the next few weeks.
