Week Four

We are at the end of another busy week of learning. We were very lucky to be apart of some amazing events this week.

Germs

We spent some time this week investigating germs. The highlight of this was going to the secondary science lab and working with the Grade 7 students. When we went to the science lab the Grade 7 students expanded to the Grade 2's what we were going to do and about the equipment they were going to use.

The students went for a walk around the secondary buildings and took four different swab samples to investigate where the dirtiest places in the school were. Students took samples of the hand rails, toilets, water coolers, the floor, teacher's mugs and some lockers of older siblings in our class.

We went back two days later to see what had happened. The Grade 7 students did a fantastic job explaining to the Grade 2's what they were doing and the changes that happened.

In the classroom we conducted our own experiment to see how much bacteria would grow on a piece of bread. We all held one slice of bread before washing our hands, one slice after washing our hands and another that was untouched. We have placed the bread in ziplock bags and have been checking on them each day. We are starting to see some bacteria growing on the bread. This also started a conversation on mould and how it grows.

Another germ related activity was in the lab completing a Brain Pop activity.

Digital Citizenship
We worked with Mr Matt on understanding digital citizenship and created short skits to help us.

Japanese Orchestra

Another amazing event we were able to be apart of was on Wednesday. We watched a Japanese youth Orchestra perform a range of music for us.

Welcome back to school assembly

Friday morning was our first assembly for the year. Alethea and Helmi were welcomed to the school by Mr Barry and Helmi's Dad helped to explain the ISPP mission statement with the help of some Grade 3 students. Assemblies are held once a month on Friday mornings at 7.45am. Please check the school calendar for dates. Parents are welcome to attend the assembly.

Next week

Next week we will go further into our unit. We started looking at sleep this week and will continue into next week. We will begin looking at nutrition and continue with our emotion poems and recount writing. In math we will shift our focus from number sense to graphing.

Have a great weekend!
