Guest Speaker - Shireen
Today we had Tashi's Mum come and speak to us about rice. We learnt about the importance of rice in our region and different ways people can use rice.

- I learnt about the Dragon Boat festival
- I learnt that in Indonesia they use a yellow rice dish called Nasi Kuning Tumpeng instead of birthday cakes.
- There are stories and folk stories about rice from China and Japan
- For Chinese New Year and winter solstice people make glutinous rice balls
- Rice is sticky and you can make glue using cooked rice and water
- There are different types of rice all around the world
- Japans keeps the best rice grown in Japan for themselves
- There is long and short grain rice
- Rice is eaten at festivals and celebrations
- Rice is useful
- Rice is a medicine. When people are sick rice water can help you get better.
- People wash their face with rice water and water the plants.
