This week we were lucky enough to have not one but three guest speakers in Grade 2!
The guest speakers spoke to us about being healthy and helped us make informed choices about our lifestyles.
On Friday students completed a reflection on what they had learnt from Mr Jon and Dr Jeannie's presentation. Reflection in the PYP has an important role.
Reflection is one of the Learner Profile attributes. The Learner Profiles are at the core of the programme. They are a set of 10 qualities or characteristics that help all of us become global citizens and life long learners.
Reflection is also a key concept of the PYP. Where we ask students answer the question 'How do you know?'. Students need to be able to reflect on their learning and justify there thinking.
It is also a thinking skill the PYP called metacognition. Students need to analyse their own thoughts and thought process to think about how they think and learn.
Students are always reflecting on their learning through discussion, personal journal writing and small group work.
Today we reflected on small groups using a thinking routine called 'I use to think...' and 'But now I know...'.

Joshua's Dad, Mr Jon, spoke to use about the importance of providing good fuel for your bodies, and we can do this from eating foods that give us the energy and nutrients we need. Student's also had the opportunity to guess how many sugar cubes are in a can of Coke. Students and teachers were surprised to find out that there are 10 cubes in one can of Coke.

The other guest speaker was Dr Jeannie. She spoke to us about food labels, what they mean and how to read them. We then compared the labels on some cereals and fruit juice. We learnt that it is important to read food labels and know what we are eating.
